Sylene is an intimate apparel boutique that had established a reputation for excellent customer satisfaction and superior merchandise. Since 1975 they had provided their services in a small store in Bethesda Maryland. As they had outgrown both the location and neighborhood, plans were made to relocate to the fashionable Chevy Chase district. Their mandate was for their new store to be an elegant comfortable space that would welcome their old clients, while attracting new shoppers from the environs.
While being in an excellent retail locale the new tenant space presented challenges; the main floor was below street level and much of the ceiling area needed to be low to accommodate the mechanical equipment. Complicating the program further was the need to access the store from both ends of the "L" shaped tenant space.
Atmosphere developed a sweeping curved axis that connected the two entrances bounded on both sides with a wall display system rhythmically lit with vertical lights and crowned with custom glass panels. A metallic green colored ceiling panel raised to relieve the confined nature of the space accentuated the flow of the axis. The cash wrap was placed to form the focal center of the store while able to control both entrances. The majority of the space is painted light green to allow the product to sparkle and adorned occasionally by the cash wrap and display counters designed with Anigre wood, brushed stainless steel and glass.
