When the client's bought this house it was a rather flimsy " builder's contemporary" without much identity or self respect but commanding a magnificent site. After visiting the house several times and discussing the owner's program and their desire to keep new construction to a minimum we began to enjoy the simple composition of two boxes and a gable that made up the basic house. We shaved away the shapes that distracted the eye from this simplicity and reworked the existing convoluted floor plan and entry to fulfilling the program while reflecting the straightforwardness of the space. Glazing framed in mahogany was added to reinforce the sense of entry creating a destination for the new "boardwalk. The interior finishes were bolstered with Ipe wood floors and multi stained oak cabinetry add warmth and density leaving a unique house with a wonderfully happy sense of self.
